When we talk about the Chow Kit, we know there is one of a black areas of cheap life and disgusting which is surrounded by prostitution, drug trafficking and neglected children.
In that place, most of young children around the age of five years to 18 years was top-lobby without directions. Some of them have identity cards, but many are not. Some of them cannot go home because their mother worked as sex workers and taking drugs into that house.
Any way, they also have the right to have a perfect life like other children. In fact, every year the number of this children is more than a hundred people and they are not in school.
For this reason, Since three years ago, Rumah Nur Salam, Chow Kit is a centre of child protection that to place abandoned children to find shelter and education.
Nur Salam grew out of a collaboration between Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak (PAKK) Chow Kit, which was under the Department of Welfare (Wilayah), and Yayasan Salam Malaysia. PAKK was originally a day care centre following the national model, but the needs of Chow Kit were not adequately served by a centre open only from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The collaboration with Yayasan Salam allowed the centre to be open 24 hours every day, and to provide programs for all children in and around the Chow Kit area. The expanded centre is now known as Nur Salam, with PAKK a keypartner.
Neglected children and child which is their parent could not support will be located in Rumah Nur Salam. These children have been collected and are given welfare. Abandoned children are reared and cared for by volunteers who keep an honest and responsible. They gives welfare and proper treatment to these children.
These Children are given positive exposure such as studied religion, education and welfare. This is for that they can live in a balance for their expansion. They also live in a comfortable and protected from external threats that endanger them.
These children also claimed its right by this house to obtain documents, documents such as birth certificates and others as they do not have the documents. This is because some of them are children of prostitutes and drug addict born out of wedlock and has no birth certificate.
According to statistics based on official reports, Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) reported that more than 257,000 registered a birth certificate records without the name of the father, since the year 2000 till the month of July 2008
The effect that these children facing
Emotion
A child emotion were disturb with life that is not perfect such as love, care and welfare of their parents. Many children express their feelings through emotions. We can see the emotions of that child expression with tears, laughter, and so on.
Mental
Children phase growth for all. So, each of the thing will influence their action in future. It is possible that one day these children will be like their parent such as drug addict, prostitution or begging. This is because they are influenced by their own parents.
Physical
For physically, when their needs were not complete, they will more depressed and rebellious. They could not grow up well because of their diet is not balanced, and sometimes there are harmful.
Lack of exposure to community to these issues because they do not know in detail and only disclosed externally. Sense of sensitivity among community is also less. The houses that to put this poor child is not sufficient to accommodate the number of these children that increasingly in number.
Rumah Nur Salam was only able to accommodate only 50 people at one time and at the same time there are 200 more children who are outside that cannot be placed because of the limited places.
